A major plus is the advantage of greater repatriation benefits and parent visits if hospitalised, cover if you are already abroad and annual renewals. Look carefully at the costs; a student departing in August and return during May can be efficiently covered for as little as £175.00 or £4.00 per week.

The difference between Personal Health Insurance (PHI) promoted and sold by US education institutions and LSTI is that insurance underwriters will decide based on various factors whether treatment will take place in the USA or in the case of serious injury repatriation back to the UK may be necessary.

Please note however that this travel and long stay study abroad insurance cover does not provide any benefits for private health care.

Please note that the STUDY ABROAD policy is designed for students who definitely intend returning back to the United Kingdom AT THE END of each year of scholarship. If this is not the case, then the COMPREHENSIVE cover should be purchased as an excellent alternative.

You can purchase each year separately subject to completing the Underwriter’s EXTENSION document.

Health Insurance will be provided by your University/College in the USA but may vary in cover and benefits accordingly. Please ensure you check this out. This cover will only be relevant whilst you are registered as a student studying on Campus or performing representative duties off-campus. The STUDY ABROAD scheme will supplement and provide the additional flexibility that you will need for your travels.

Please Note: The STUDY ABROAD scheme is a leisure travel insurance only and does not provide benefits of cover for Private Health Care. All decisions relating to the authorisation of any medical treatment and/or any course of action such as Repatriation are made by the Underwriter’s 24 Hour Medical Assistance Company. These decisions will always be exercised in good faith and having the best regards to the interests of the insured.

It should be noted that once you are Repatriated to your Country of Normal Residence, there is NO cover for any ongoing Medical Expenses that are incurred in your Home Country.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Long Stay Travel Insurance (LSTI) does not cover students while playing/training for their university or college soccer team. Universities and colleges should have their own special athletic cover for their sports teams and student athletes. A student must check with their university or college prior to purchase of the insurance that they have a policy in place to cover you while you are playing for their team.
